Care of the Teacher

Teaching is a demanding calling-profession that can result in the care of the teacher being placed last on the list of things to attend to. In the face of high classroom demands, children with challenging needs, diminishing resources and increasing stress levels, along with the times we are facing, burnout and sickness are on the rise now among our teachers.

While we are often aware of the impact this has, it can sometimes feel too challenging to address. But teacher well-being matters: For teachers themselves, their students and their colleagues, as well as our greater communities.

When our teachers are more resourced, they are in a position to meet life in the classroom with more health, ease, resilience and clarity. In addition, they come to serve as a positive and powerful role model for students and their families during times of great uncertainty and overwhelm. Meeting the real needs of our teachers by supporting and nourishing their ability to thrive goes on to serve us all in ways large and small.
